DENVER, COLORADO

Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom has been the primary offensive provider within the A’s first 10 games of the season. He introduced 24th overall prospect (COL #1) Chase Dollander to the big leagues with force: Cranking a home run to right field in the first inning of his major league debut.

Dollander made one start for AAA Albuquerque, tallying five strikeouts across four innings before earning the call to the big leagues

Unfortunately for the A’s, Dollander would benefit from an offensive explosion in Denver that tagged Joey Estes for six earned runs through three innings, carving a path to his first major league victory.

Brenton Doyle’s homer and Kris Bryant’s RBI single left the game tied 2-2 after the 1st inning. Dollander escaped a jam in the fourth inning when shortstop Jacob Wilson got thrown out trying to advance to third base on a Miguel Andujar single, ending the inning.

Mitch Spence entered the game for the Athletics, going on to surrender three runs across 4 1/3rd innings before T.J. McFarland would enter in the eighth. By the time he finished the eighth inning, the Athletics had three outs to score 8 runs in the top of the ninth. McFarland's season ERA ballooned to 15.00.

Lawrence Butler singled to center, scoring Miguel Andujar before a Brent Rooker fly out would conclude the contest.

The Rockies (and Dollander) prevailed by a score of 12-4, avoiding the sweep. Lead-off man Brenton Doyle came a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, going 3 for 5 with four RBIs.

Once again, the A’s pitching dug a hole that the lineup couldn’t hit out of. They take 2 of 3 in Colorado and welcome the 8-2 San Diego Padres to Sutter Health Park for a three game series. The Athletics are fourth in the AL West with a record of 4-6.

Michael King will take the mound for the Padres against Luis Severinio - making his third start in an Athletics uniform.

Tyler Soderstrom enters the week leading the A’s with his .359 average. He sits in 10th place in all of MLB in that category.
